Drug action mechanism:
Fluocinolone Acetonide is a synthetic steroid with anti-inflammatory, anti-pruritic and anti-allergic effects. The mechanism of drug action shows a correlation with vasoconstrictor potency, membrane permeability suppression and release of inflammatory mediators.
Indications :
Topical corticosteroids area indicated for the relief of the inflammatory and pruritic manifestation of corticosteroid-responsive dermatoses.
Posology :
Apply to the affected area as a thin film from two to four times daily.
Warnings and precautions:
- If irritation develops, use should be discontinued
- In the presence of infections, the use of an antifungal or antibacterial agent should be instituted.
- It is not intended for ophthalmic use
- Avoid contact with the eyes; if eye contact results in severe irritation, immediate flushing of the eye with a large volume of water is recommended
- Systemic absorption of topical corticosteroids may produce reversible hypothalamic-pituitary adrenal (HPA) axis suppression, manifestations of Cushing's syndrome, hyperglycemia, and glucosuria in some patients.
- Prolonged use may result in superinfection.
- The treated skin area should not be bandaged or otherwise covered or wrapped as to be occlusive unless directed by the physician. Do not use bandage on a child or on the face.
- Patients should report any signs of local adverse reactions especially under occlusive dressing.
- Use topical corticosteroids with caution in nursing mothers and pregnant women
Contraindications:
· Hypersensitivity to any of the components of the preparation
· Primary bacterial, fungal or viral skin infections
· Rosacea, acne, peri-oral dermatitis, redness due to bandage, anogenital pruritus
· Children under 2 years of age
