IKACYCLIN Capsules : each capsule contains Tetracycline

Indications :
IKACYCLIN is indicated in treatment of :
Respiratory tack infections. Mycoplasma, pneumonia, Brucellosis, Stepylococcal infections. Biliary infections, Cholera, Rikettsial infections, Q-fever, Gonorrhea , non specific urethritis.
Dosage :
The dose for chlidren is 25 - 40 mg per kilogram body weight per day given in our divided doses. The adult dose is 250 mg six hourly, or 500 mg six hourly for more serious infections. Doses larger than 500 mg six hourly are usually of no additional benefit, because higer serum levels are not obtained and the excess tetracycline is excreted in the faces.
Adverse reactions :
Gastrointestinal disturbances such as nausea, epigastric distress, vomiting have only rarely been observed. Suppression of the normal bacterial flora may also cause overgrowth of non-susceptible bacteria and fungi, e.g. candida albicans. Tetracycline is deposited in calcifying areas of bones and teeth in children, if they receive these drugs early in life,or if their mother is treated by tetracycline during pregnancy, because the drug crosses the placenta. The deposition of Tetracycline in the bones of infants has been shown to produce temporary inhibition of bone growth.
Allergic reactions are very uncommon and mostly subside as soon as the preparation is discontinued.
