Composition :
Each tablet contains 80 mg of gliclazide
Indications :
For the treatment of maturity onset diabetes mellitus.
Dosage :
Adults : the total daily dose may vary from 40 to 320 mg taken orally. The dose should be adjusted according to the individual patient’s response, commencing with 40 – 80 mg daily (1/2 – 1 tablet) and increasing until adequate control is achieved. A single dose should not exceed 160 mg (2 tablets), when higher doses are required, gliclazide should be taken twice daily and in accordance with the time of the main meals of the day (In the majority of cases, 2 tablets/day with meals, 1 tablet with breakfast, 1 tablet with dinner). In obese patients or those showing adequate response to gliclazide alone, additional therapy may be required.
Drug interaction :
The hypoglycaemic effect of gliclazide may be potentiated by phenybutazone, sulphonamides, salicylates, coumarin derivatives, MAO Inhibitors, bad adrenergic blocking agents, tetracycline compounds, chloramphenicol, clofibrate, disopramide, miconazole and cimetidine. It may be dimished by corticosteroids, oral contraceptives, thiazide diuretics, phenothiazine derivatives, thyroid hormones and habituation of laxatives.
