Composition :
Each film coated tablet contains :
Simvastatin.........................10mg
Indicataion :
- Prior to initiating therapy with simvastatin, secondary causes for hypercholesterolemia (e.g., poorly controlled diabetes melitus, hypothyroidism, nephrotic syndrome, disproteinemia, obstructive liver desease, alkoholism and other, drug therapy) should excluded, and a lipid profile performed to measure total, and triglyceride.
- Simvastatin is indicated as an adjunct to diet to reduce elevated total cholesterol and LDL in patiens with primary hypercholesterolemia when the response to diet and order non pharmacological measure alone has been inadequate.
Contraindication :
- Patients hypersensitive to this medication
- Patients with active liver desease
- Pregnant women and nurshing mothers
Drug interaction :
Coumarin derivatives Simvastatin potentiates the anticoagulant effect or warfarin. In patients taking coumarin anticoagulants prothrombin time should be determined before starting simvastatin.
Fabric acid derivatives and nicotinic acid
Cocomitant administration of simvastatin with fibric acid/nicotinic acid potentiates the cholesterol lowering effect.
Caution should be exercised when using the drug concomitantly with immunosuppressive agents and niacin.
